Issues Letter - Essay Example Immunization is sure way of reducing infant mortality as it can protect children of a number of diseases that can easily take away their lives at a tender age. Example of diseases that have been eradicated through proper immunization programs include polio and measles. Vaccination offers an effective and safe means of preventing the occurrence of diseases among children. It is a proven fact that disease-prevention benefits of getting vaccines are much greater than the possible side effects for almost all children. Some people have shunned away from vaccination on grounds that it creates discomfort among children such as pain, redness and tenderness at the injected spot. However, they need to note that the pain and trauma associated with the diseases themselves far much outweighs the discomfort of vaccination. Prevention is better than cure should be embraced as the means to advocate for immunization programs in the country. Failure to advocate for vaccination will lead to wastage of resources in a bit to cure diseases that would have otherwise been prevented. Immunization thus saves time and money. As a matter of urgency, immunization programs need to be emphasized within the public domain so as to reap some of the benefits of such programs. Awareness need to be created among the members of the public through the use of mainstream media and the social media platforms. The government need to adopt radical steps in their bid to mobilize the public on the need to take immunization programs seriously. Some of the actions include placing of billboards or posters placed at the district center and at the entrance of all public places at the time when vaccinations are starting, and should remain until all the doses have been completed. Information on immunization should be dispatched through the media via radio and television programs and commercials.
